"The Pirates have brought us together, despite our ethnic differences. It helps us tackle our problems and keeps us fit and busy. It is my passion." Marcos Casmil - SC Pirates 1st team Captain

About SC Pirates

South Coast Pirates RC was founded in April 2013 when George Barbour brought together player representatives with Coach David Nolan and Base Titanium's Paul Thompson. There had been an interest in rugby in Ukunda prior to this, largely due to the annual Touch Tournament on Diani Beach. David began regular coaching sessions on the public grounds in Ukunda and later at the Ukunda Showground, now the Club's official home ground.

The Club is registered with KRU Nationwide Coastal League.

Word got around that there was a new rugby team in town and the club experienced an influx of players. Newcomers to the sport joined schoolboys who attend colleges in the rugby heartlands of Kenya. They came in large numbers in the holiday season. Experienced players who had previously played in Kenya's premier competition came out of the woodwork too. The team finished fourth in a league of 10 in their first year,  an enormous achievement.

Following on from the success of the senior team, the Club has now initiated rugby development in the region through networking and also through active coaching programmes in local school.
